Hot Stone Massage an ancient healing art is considered by many as the most relaxing massage of all. The basalt stones (lava rocks) are heated up and used in the massage to sooth the body. If you can go into a hot tub for at least 20 minutes, than you can receive a hot stone massage.

Canadian Institute of Natural Health and Healing is proud to present this Hot Stone Massage course. This Hot Stone Massage is for the student who wants to work in a day spa, cruise ship, beauty salon or natural health and healing center.

For in class students; this is an accelerated Hot Stone Massage course. European Lymph Drainage Massage is a pre-requisite course for in class students. You can e-mail us to see if we have room for part time studies or you can take this program by correspondence and complete it in four months.

Topics covered in this course include:

  • Introduction to Spa
  • Personal & Professional Ethic
  • History
  • Stones and technique 
  • Contra-indications          Heat is great for relaxation and sore muscles but not for:
    • Inflammation, 
    • pregnancy, 
    • diabetes, 
    • neuropathy, 
    • nerve surgery, 
    • some prescription medication, 
    • obese/ overweight, 
    • heart disease or issues, 
    • varicose veins, 
    • all autoimmune dysfunctions (chronic fatigue), 
    • or thin skin (elderly or very young)   

When you purchase the stones used in this massage, they need to be:

  • Basalt (lava)
  • Flat and no holes or sharp edges
  • Four different sizes (approximately size):
    • 6-8 Large Stones (3-4 inches round, 1-11/2 inches thick)
    • 18 Medium (2-3 inches, 1-11/2 inches thick)
    • 14 Small (1-2 inches, 1-11/2 inches thick)
    • 8 toe stones (3/4 -1 inch )    
  • 3-4 cold stones- river rocks or marble (2-5 inches, 1-11/2 inches thick)

Courses also required for the Hot Stone Massage certificate: Introduction to Anatomy/Physiology, Pathology and Business.
